Strike 4

Strike 4

Strike 4 is the fourth in a series of 12 ‘Clock Face’ pieces.

As with the other pieces in this series, the basic outline is a circle subdivided into 12 x 30 degree segments to represent a clock face. From there, the baseline is divided into 3 circles of varying radius. In this piece, the circles are equally spaced with the smallest circle having a radius of 3″, the 2nd circle has a radius of 6″ and the outside circle has a 9″ radius.

In total, the Strike 4 is 18″ across the diameter (as are all other pieces in this series).

In the process of working on this series, there is one ‘constant’ that I have become aware of. It is comparatively easier to  decide on how I will treat the outside edges of the clock than how to treat the centre of the piece. On the outer edge, you have much more ‘room to play with’. At the centre on the piece, to keep it divided into the twelve segments, the segments become significantly smaller. This, in turn, limits the detail I can add.

This leads to another ‘What If’. 🙂 What if I combined the segments within the centre so that the centre was divided into thirds or quarters?  Will that give me more scope to add variation to the pieces?

Hmmm…. interesting, I’ll have a look at that….

There is another option as well…. I will look into dividing the circle into two segments only, not three:)
